Culinary Odyssey of Vietnam

Delight your taste buds with a culinary tour of Vietnam. Vietnamese cuisine is a blending of many cultures including influences from the French and Chinese. Experience hands-on cooking demonstrations featuring imperial cuisine, home-style cooking, and local street food favorites while enjoy visits to four of Vietnam’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites at Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue and Hoi An.


 

Day 1 March 31, 2008: USA – Hanoi
Depart the USA for Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam.

Day 2 April 01, 2008: Cross the International Dateline

Day 3 April 02, 2008: Hanoi
Arrive in Hanoi in the morning. Your local guide will meet and greet you upon arrival. Transfer to the hotel for check in. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to relax at the hotel or venture out on your own to explore the city. Mingle with your fellow travelers at tonight’s welcome dinner. (D)

Day 4 April 03, 2008: Hanoi
Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Depart for your city tour of Hanoi, visiting the Temple of Literature, One Pillar Pagoda, the Fine Arts Museum, and the Ethnology Museum. Enjoy the world-famous Water Puppet Show tonight. (L/D)

Day 5 April 04, 2008: Hanoi – Halong Bay
Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum before departing for Halong Bay, 170 km from Hanoi. Visit a local ceramics and hand embroidery workshop en route. Upon your arrival in
Halong Bay, board the Huong Hai Junk, your luxury accommodation for the night. Welcome lunch reception before setting sail around the islands of Halong Bay. The Junk will make stops at some
grottoes, giving you the opportunity to take a swim before dinner. (B/L/D)

Day 6 April 05, 2008: Halong Bay - Hanoi – Hue
Breakfast on board the Junk. Enjoy swimming and fabulous photographic opportunities as the Junk sails around the islets. Return to Hanoi in the afternoon to board an evening flight to Hue, the ancient capital of Vietnam. Dinner features the typical central Vietnamese cuisine. (B/L/D)

Day 7 April 06, 2008: Hue (B/L)
Take a morning stroll to the colorful local city market followed by a vegetarian cooking demonstration at a Buddhist Temple. Enjoy the fruits of your labor as you savor the vegetarian delights. Cruise along the Perfume River in the afternoon with excursions at the Tu Duc Tomb and Thien Mu Buddhist Temple. (L/D)

Day 8 April 07, 2008: Hue – Hoi An
Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Tour the Imperial City visiting the Royal Citadel. After lunch, depart for the ancient town of Hoi An. Tonight’s dinner will be served at a traditional restaurant in Hoi An. (B/L/D)

Day 9 April 08, 2008: Hoi An
Take part in a morning cooking class at the Red Bridge Cooking School. Experience Hoi An’s local market, taking in the sights, sounds, and wonderful aromas of this busy market. Interact with the local vendors as you purchase the ingredients to be used later in your cooking lesson. The chefs will demonstrate each dish before you learn to make it. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to explore Hoi An. (B/L)

Day 10 April 09, 2008: Hoi An – Ho Chi Minh City
Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Take a walking tour of Hoi An, visiting the famous Japanese Covered Bridge and an old merchant’s home that features architectural styles of Chinese, Japanese, and
Portuguese influences. Board a late afternoon flight for Ho Chi Minh City. Your dinner will be at a famous local vegetarian restaurant. (B/L/D)

 

Day 11 April 10, 2008: Ho Chi Minh City - Mekong Delta
Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Full day excursion to the Mekong Delta. Enjoy a cruise on the Cai Be Princess, a beautifully restored wooden rice boat. Enjoy lunch at a local home featuring home-style cooking. Return to the city in the evening. (B/L/D)

Day 12 April 11, 2008: Ho Chi Minh City – USA
Buffet breakfast at the hotel. The morning is free for your own activities before you are escorted to the airport for your departure flight. (B)
