1 USA / LIMA
Depart USA on your flight bound for Lima, Peru. Evening
arrival in Lima. Meet and greet service by our local
representative who will assist in your transfer to
the hotel.

2 LIMA / PUERTO MALDONADO / RESERVA AMAZONICA
After an early morning breakfast at the hotel our
local representatives will meet you and assist with
your transfer to the airport for a flight to Puerto
Maldonado. Once in Puerto Maldonado you will travel
by bus on a tour of the town with a visit to the local
market. Afterwards, transfer to a boat for a one hour
ride to Reserva Amazonica Lodge, situated on the banks
of the Madre de Dios River.
Begin your exploration of the Amazon rainforest with
both daylight and night hikes into the 10,000-hectare
Inkaterra Ecological Reserve, located next to the
Lodge. Opportunities to see animals such as anteaters,
agouties, capybaras, and monkeys are excellent.

3 ACEER - TAMBOPATA AT INKATERRA (ATI) / RESERVA AMAZONICA
After breakfast, board a boat for a 45 minute ride
to the Amazon Center for Environmental Education and
Research. ACEER is located on a 340-hectare private
reserve that joins the Tambopata Reserve and Lake
Sandoval. Begin the tour at the Interpretation Center
to view a new exhibit, Madre de Dios: A River of Change,
designed and constructed in part by ACEER and other
non-government organizations, like the National Geographic
Society. The exhibit, composed of 9 stations, will
provide an orientation to the site and region. Tour
the Useful Plants Trail and Medical Plants Trail.
Learn about the climate, geography, history, ecosystems,
and culture of the tropical rainforest of the Madre
de Dios region. Considerable time will also be spent
explaining the diversity of plant-based medicines
from the rainforest.
Time permitting, Shaman Don Antonio Montero will perform
a cleansing ritual for the group.

4 RESERVA AMAZONICA / POSADA AMAZONAS
After breakfast a second opportunity to visit the
Canopy Walkway is available.
Afterward, board Rainforest Expeditions’ boat
for a 4-hour journey up the Tambopata River to Posada
Amazonas Lodge, a joint venture of Rainforest Expeditions
and the native Ese Eja people. Activities will include
a visit to their nearby village, Infierno.

Day 5 POSADA AMAZONAS / TAMBOPATA RESEARCH CENTER
Up at dawn for a visit to the Tres Chambara oxbow
lake, home of the endangered giant river otter, for
an excellent opportunity to view bird life and the
otters.
Continue up the Tambopata River through pristine rainforest.
Difference in wildlife abundance will be noted immediately,
with sightings of macaws, herons, kingfishers and
cormorants, as well as capybaras and caiman. Arrive
at Tabopata Research Center. Their world famous macaw
clay lick attracts up to 15 species daily.

6 TAMBOPATA RESEARCH CENTER
The day will be spent exploring the reserve surrounding
the Center, including visiting the macaw clay lick,
the Canopy Tower, and hiking the 1.5 km Ocelot Trail.
Excellent opportunities to view wildlife.

7 TAMBOPATA RESEARCH CENTER / POSADA AMAZONAS
After breakfast travel downriver to Posada Amazonas.
Activities will include a visit to their Canopy Tower
and explorations of the reserve surrounding the lodge.

8 POSADA AMAZONAS / LIMA
Travel by boat to Puerto Maldonado. Transfer to the
airport for your flight to Lima. On arrival in Lima
you will be met and transferred to a hotel where you
will have the use of a day room. Following a farewell
dinner, transfer to the airport for your flight to
the USA.

9 ARRIVAL IN THE USA
After clearing customs and immigration, proceed to
your return flight to your home city.
