Q & A
Q. Who will benefit from this
program?
A. Persons with diabetes and their family/friends will gain
a wealth of knowledge from this interactive and “user
friendly” program. Participants will go home with the
“tools” they need to live a healthier and richer
life. In line with the goal of many heath care professionals,
this program incorporates teachings of the mind and body such
as meditation and Pilates with traditional medical knowledge.
Q. Are there any age restrictions?
A. Diabetes doesn’t discriminate on the basis of age;
and we welcome participants of all ages.
Q. Will my insulin
dose or medications be able to be adjusted if needed?
A. No, dosing and medication advice can only be given by
your own healthcare provider. We believe that knowledge is
power, and through the knowledge you gain from this program,
you and your health care provider will be able to make better
decisions together concerning your individual health goals.
You should bring all your current medications with you. In
the event of a medical emergency, the ship has a physician
and medical personnel who can assist you.
Q. Do we need to fill
out any forms?
A. Included (for program participants) is access to the online
Wellness Inventory. This is a helpful tool our faculty uses
in accessing your unique needs. We then make sure that we
address as many of the specific areas of concern for you as
possible. For example, we will work to customize a program
that addresses all areas of wellness including oral medications,
stress reduction, exercise, feeling of wellbeing, insulin
delivery, etc. You will receive instructions about how to
use the Wellness Inventory with your program materials which
will be mailed to you after you register.
Q. Is this
program covered by insurance?
A. Diabetes Education is covered under many insurance policies.
Participants will be given a statement to submit for possible
reimbursement. This statement breaks down the cost of the
education portion of the program and also has the potential
to be used with regard to a Flexible Spending Account, or
as a health care deduction on taxes. You must clarify this
with your insurance company and/or accountant what costs are
applicable.
Q. Will
I be able to participate in the ship’s activities (Port
excursions, etc…)?
A. This program is designed to afford you the maximum benefit
from your trip. We have programs that run daily from 9am-1pm.
This will allow you plenty of “free” time to enjoy
the lovely ports of call, see the shows, or just bask in the
warmth of the beautiful Caribbean sun.
Q. Will this program
be available in the future if I wish to recommend it to friend,
or someone can’t go on the dates it is offered?
A. Yes, we expect the popularity of this type of program
will allow us to offer it several times during the year. You
can refer to the website for future dates and locations: www.mindbodytravel.com
